VIRÓN ist die Zukunft des veganen und nachhaltigen Schuhwerks
Virón - vegan, recycled, European!
The shoes and boots from Viron are not just visually appealing! The label not only wants to bring insanely cool shoes onto the market with its products, but also to design a product that uses existing resources and minimises the impact on our planet. With recycled fabrics, the use of as few new materials as possible and complete production in Europe, they show how it's done. The production and supply chain takes place entirely in Europe. The shoes are made in Guimarães, Portugal, in a family-run factory that specialises in the production of vegetarian shoes.

Food scraps, military canvas and PET bottles
For their production, Viron have created a system that reuses leftovers from other manufacturers and gives them a new life. All soles are made from recycled rubber and they mainly use recycled canvas for the upper, lining and insoles. To do this, they work with several warehouses in Europe from which they source surplus military materials. All dyes are eco-friendly and vegan, and some are made from food waste or flowers.
What looks like leather at Viron are various substitute products such as leftovers from food production or recycled PET bottles. They particularly like to work with apple leather, which is made from food waste from the apple juice industry in northern Italy with 60% bio-based components. During production, the peels and seeds are processed with a mixture of polyurethane, from which a light, breathable and resistant material is then produced. This technique allows fossil oil to be replaced by bio-based alternatives. Fossil-oil-based plastics are also replaced by bio-based compounds in the leather substitute made from corn husks. Similar to apple leather, the proportion of biomass is 60%. Another leather substitute at Viron is made from recycled PET bottles. Up to 13 recycled PET bottles are used in the 1992 model series. All adhesives and colourants used are controlled by the European Union's REACH regulation.
